The Motability Scheme – Worry-free mobility
The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair by exchanging their Government funded mobility allowance . If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) , the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme.
Parents can apply on behalf of a child who receives the allowance, but please speak to your dealer, as some products may not be suitable for all ages. Unfortunately, the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a product through Motability.
Motability scooters and powered wheelchairs are available on a three year lease (five years for some custom-built powered wheelchairs). This simply means that you lease the product from us and we arrange for the relevant amount of your allowance to be paid direct to us every four weeks.
Most Motability scooters and powered wheelchairs cost less to lease per week than your mobility allowance, so the remainder of your allowance continues to be paid direct to you, to spend as you wish. The cost of your Motability scooter or powered wheelchair includes what we call our worry-free package. So with a Motability product, you don’t have to worry about arranging and paying for insurance, breakdown cover, maintenance, servicing, tyre or battery replacement.
From 1 January 2015, all standard products require an upfront Non-refundable Payment of £100 payable to your dealer before you take delivery of your scooter or powered wheelchair.
You will be sure to find something that suits both your needs and budget.
To make sure that each product is affordable, Motability review all products and prices every three months. They also offer a price guarantee. This means that the price you agree with your dealer when you place your order is the price you pay, even if it changes before you collect it. The only case where the price may be altered is if the scooter or powered wheelchair description is changed subsequent to the original order.

Your dealer will be able to show you how to do this properly ensuring your battery lasts as long as possible and, if anything goes wrong with the battery through normal every day use, it will be replaced, free of charge.
The majority of scooters and many powered wheelchairs come as standard from the manufacturer (except in cases of custom-built powered wheelchairs). If you need additional adaptations, speak to your dealer to discuss prices and details. All our scooters come with a weatherproof cover as standard, so your scooter stays dry – whatever the weather.
What’s not included?
There are some things that are not included:
• Optional extras on the product that are not fitted as standard
